So here is an entry I posted to my journal at DeviantArt (where I post all my photography).

Well, I finally have my work situation all worked (no pun int.) out. I’m splittling my time between some paid work for the healthcare campaign where I helped out last summer ([link]) which is a great group of people, and a domestic violence center ([link]) which is un-paid volunteer work. I’m only working 4 days a week, and since it’s volunteer work the hours are really flexible.

And this way even if I end up doing boring work, it’ll be an assortment, and the work will really be for a cause that is concrete –not to mention urgent– which makes it much easier to tolerate. And that isn’t to say the work is boring at all! In fact, so far it’s been pretty interesting!

So here on DA I’ve passed the 4000 page view mark… wow. Incredible! I must say despite all my grumblings, it does feel great to see that number just keep climbing up… And I saw a definite response to my latest strategy of mixing up my commenting. Rather than spend so much time commenting on work on my watch list, which is either by famous deviants who are too busy to bother looking… well, mabe it’s more just how pressured I feel to comment on everything on my watch list, so i end up just skipping it all, or erasing it.

So anyways, I figure a few carefully written and thoughout comments, even if the artist doesn’t comment me back, will draw others’ attention. And random posting helps too, though it doesn’t get me any useful critique…

and then of course is a fantastic resource, despite it’s apparent lack of administrative support at the moment (wish I could help them, but I’d surely go insane… that is, if I was even qualified, which I’m not hehe).

So I’ve written enough for now,
time for me to get some sleeeep

OH! And I made APPLE SORBET tonight!!! Pretty damn good…
Maybe I’ll post the recipe?
Would anyone be interested?

Dead

Well, no more job at C-STPS.
Bad interview at Staples.

Too hot out.

DA

Something I wrote at DeviantArt inspired by a discussion I happened upon “here”:http://coxi.deviantart.com/journal/5874311/.

Finally enough drive to write how I feel about this topic
\\
So. I implore you to comment.
Otherwise, DA will never be great.

I came to DA in the hopes that other artists would be able to provide me with useful critiques with which I could improve as an artist (photographer).

My critiques may not be long, but I try to fill them with meaning and — at the least — thought. If I do not feel sufficiently inspired, or I simply enjoy a photo and cannot bring myself to write, I may simply fav or write a short “very nice”. This is not meant to take the place of REAL critique.

If I receive good critiques, I am happy to give back, although those that know enough to critique well may not be able to benefit from my lesser knowledge. If I receive short well-meaning but ill-informed critiques, that is ok, since not everyone can be an expert. I still will appreciate, and reciprocate.

But if, in return for my hours of trying to give others meaningful feedback I don’t have the opportunity to grow as an artist, (except through my own personal explorations) What will keep me submitting to DA? Surely I enjoy sharing my art, but apathy is a potent force that feeds on feelings of pointlessness.

We can’t comment everyone, nor can we all give profound advice, but I have found it easy to point out things I see as places to improve in others’ work, even those with more experience than I.

Oh, and an aside/rant:

WHY IS THERE NO plugin to auto-form LINKS?!
I don’t WANT to have to do stupid textile or markdown syntax! I want http://BLAH to become http://BLAH automatically! Alas… maybe I will learn php after all :-)

Deficits, Unsustainable Fiscal Policy

Found this slide from a presentation by the U.S. Comptroller General, “21st Century Challenges: Reexamining the Base of the Federal Government” (April 2005).

Shows what they believe to be the probable outcome of our current fiscal policies (”unsustainable”):

Watches!

Well, rather than embarking on a nice prose-laden post about the beauties of Italy, I will instead leave you with a link to the page where you will find the watch I wish I owned… and will perhaps own some day? Those of you (if “you” do, indeed exist… I haven’t gotten around to putting a hitcounter on here so who knows how many there are… hmmm maybe I can check on the control panel… anyways) who know me know that I’m not prone to materialism… er.. buying expensive things, or buying much of anything for that matter (music doesnt count…) but I do have a spectacular weakness for pens, and things with moving parts (watches being a prime example…, especially when you can see the gears!!!) so this one was love at first sight!

Unfortunately, their site is flash, so I can’t link to the exact page, but it is their flagship model, the Tourbillon Souverain made by Swiss watchmakers F. P. Journe. Their website is here, so enjoy drooling while I finish up my trip here in Italia, and watch for some posts about it in a day or two… or maybe even later today if I feel like it…
