    Pingomatic

Well, after tentatively singing pingomatic’s praises, I just realized that Technorati has record of only 6 posts in the last 47 days. Great. And editing posts won’t re-ping technorati… Though I bet there’s a way to tell technorati to just index my page…
    We shall see!
p.s. pingomatic.com is still not loading… I should have taken the hint.

p.p.s. other people have been having similar issues, I see….

p.p.p.s. Found this post about a similar service called Pingoat that may be worth checking out…

and another post about issues with Technorati and ping relay services

Study: Survive the Dreaded All-Nighter… [varsity.co.nz]

Study: Survive the Dreaded All-Nighter… [varsity.co.nz]:

As exams and assignment deadlines loom, you’ll no doubt be feeling a bit anxious about getting the work done on time.

All-nighters aren’t exactly recommended study technique, but sometimes you may feel you have no choice.

If you’re going to do it, be prepared. And remember - if you’ve been staring at one page for 20 minutes, just hit the sack.

    Woops…

    IndieKarma. Micropayments that work?

    IndieKarma. Micropayments that work?:

I got an email weeks ago urging me to look at a new micropayment system called IndieKarma. Pretty much every other micropayment scheme I’ve seen is too clunky to actually be useful, but I was pleasantly surprised with IndieKarma when I got around to checking it out. Here’s how it works.
If you’re a blogger or web site owner, you sign up, put a bit of JavaScript code on your site, and whenever a reader who’s signed into IndieKarma visits your site, you get a penny. Seamless and easy.

    Ooooh, sounds awesome…! Maybe I’ll try it…

“Neogeography” Blends Blogs With Online Maps

“Neogeography” Blends Blogs With Online Maps:

“It is as if we shipped a map to someone and they stuck pushpins in it,” said Bret Taylor, product manager for Google. “We provide the map, and other people put in the pushpins.”

The trend has been dubbed neogeography, and some enthusiasts predict it could spur a revolution in electronic cartography.

    MercuryNews.com | 05/07/2006 | Risking a life term to protect a child

    MercuryNews.com | 05/07/2006 | Risking a life term to protect a child:

This is the story of two young Los Gatos men, both facing life in prison, and how one’s crime may have halted the other’s.

“There is honor among thieves,” said Dana Overstreet, who is prosecuting Aitken. “In my case, Hahn is a hero.”

A both heartwarming, and yet also very chilling story about a criminal turning over a USB drive he stole upon discovering it contained child pornography. This is the reaction of the child molester upon realizing that the police had seen the photos.

Aitken put his hands over his face, according to court documents, took a deep sigh, and started talking:
“It was just, I, I, I — it’s stupid, you know? It was one day, you know being stupid. And you know, did it, and you know, halfway through it I was so upset at myself I just stopped and said `What am I doing?’. . . And you know, stopped and spent the next week just throwing up, all upset about it, thinking, you know, how could I do this to somebody I love?”

Wired News: Under Attack, Spam Fighter Folds

Wired News: Under Attack, Spam Fighter Folds:

A startup whose aggressive antispam measures drew a blistering counterattack from spammers two weeks ago that brought down the company’s servers along with a wide swath of the internet is shuttering its program that targets junk e-mailers.

“Our community would very much like us to continue on the fight against spam, and our community has grown over the last week,” Reshef said. “But at the end of the day if we continue doing so, within a few days, major websites will go down. I don’t feel that this is something I can be responsible for. I cannot go ahead and rip up the internet to make Blue Security work. This is not the decision a commercial entity can make.”

Yikes… this is pretty incredible. I hope this brings some much needed attention to the situation–making it more high-profile and less just-a-nuisance…
