…is a complete pile of CRAP! It crashes like nobody’s business! Maybe I’d use it (if it weren’t for all the highjacked music, that is) if it were a public Beta or something, but as paid software? No thanks. (Not yet, at least).
…And what’s with not being able to open more than one document, or have the application stay open even when no documents are open? This always annoyed me on the PC version as well, and you’d think they’d work things like that out after FIVE VERSIONS!
ugh… When you click on an instrument and then try to preview the tuning of certain strings (especially if you go to a second string without first toggling the first one off) you get instant-spinning-beachball-of-death. Blech…
Update: See this fantastic comment by Happyspaceinvader!
I was invited into the beta testing program for Guitar Pro 5 for Mac less than two months before it was due for release and the software was in a very sorry state with horrendous bugs. At the time, I could not see how they were going to manage to release it on time, and so I was not surprised that the finished product is so bad.
Amongst many bugs I raised, there was the issue that it seems to crash with a Kernel Protection error, apparently randomly, although the crash report is always very similar and I have some GP5 arrangements that will guarantee a crash at the same place every time.
Another bug, that I raised repeatedly and they’ve only just fixed in the very latest release, is that the installer installs all files as user/group ID 501. But what if your main user does not have that ID (e.g. supposing you deleted and created a new main user)? Tough luck - you have no write access to any of the files unless you;re ready to brave the Unix command line (something I would not expect all Mac owners to have to be skilled in) and chown them.
RSE also does not work properly (even though they released it officially). When I enable it, the RSE instuments are horribly distorted, far too quiet and generally sound like crap. They also cause the song to play out of time.
Now my main Mac is not ancient. I do not expect to be able to run GP5 on my Powerbook G4, but my iMac G5 (2GHz, 1.5GB RAM) should be more than adequate, given the very low specs a PC needs to be able to run the same software.
GP5 for the Mac is simply broken and, as such, extremely disappointing.
Wow, thanks for the great info!
I actually bought this software because I needed it as our band keeps all music in GP format.
I don’t think I’ve ever used it without it crashing at some point and just quitting for no reason.
not really very impressed
God did I make a mistake. I bought Guitar Pro on a whim and OH BOY is it full of bugs. Tech suppot there in Frane have giiven me a big “BlahBlah” as if its m problem. I have no other software that crashes. My G% ppc is a great machine and serves me well. This company should be spanked and made to sit in the corner.
Guitar Pro 5 Shame on you. Stick with programming for Windows and don’t try to write for osx.
I want a refund!!!!
As a reply to my last complaint Guitar Pro has Given me a Refund. So at least they have a heart.
rse just sounds BAD and distorted. I want my money back.
LOL yeah my brother made the dumbass move of getting that too.
Ugh!! How does such crappy software get released!? And why didn’t I read this post BEFORE I purchased it? Hopefully I can get the refund too.
Thanks for all the info. Tons of help!
The windows version uses alot of resources but it works great. Put this software on the right computer and you will enjoy it.
So… Guitar Pro 5 doesn’t work well with Macs? What about Macbooks?
Didn’t they release a new patch to fix these problems?
I have GP5 on PC, it works great. However, it acts up once in a while and does trigger the stupidest things, but it still is a stable and great program.
I recommend the program, can’t wait til GP6!
Actually it doesn’t like A windows system too!
I had a P4 with WinXP SP2 - it crashed regularily and RSE played out of time.
Now I have a Quad Core, WinXP SP3 - same problems!
Hi,
Works ok for me, I am using Windows, I know nothing about Mac. Maybe you should try the Windows version as well.
Harry
Windows version has plenty of bugs (v5.2) but at least it doesn’t crash.
Windows version 5.2 crashes quite a lot here.
Especially when using RSE.
Too bad they don’t have a user forum, where these issues could be resolved.
By searching the web, this blog was the closest thing I could find
I’ve also asked about this in the tech support a couple of times, but never got a response (other than auto-reply).
I wonder when the next version will be out (if ever) - it’s been a while.
Certainly a lot of things to be improved.
I heard GP6 will be out in 2009 early spring.
A lot of improvements and features. They better release better (or working) version for Macs!
Apparently, we can’t use MIDI and RSE at the same time anymore.
