Metal: Racist Morons? (not ALL)

Dragonforce changed my life - Page 6 - Ultimate Metal Forum
A quick quote:

Zephyrus: There’s a difference between black people and niggers. I respect black people, I hate niggers.
Faith No More: Why on earth would you respect black people, liberal?
Zephyrus: There are a handful of eminent African Americans that I respect, but most of them are useless niggers. Most black people I respect in reference to the innocent starving souls in Africa.

::sigh::… Not only are metalheads homophobic, they’re racist too… And not just the crazy norwegians either (or so it would seem, though I know none of these people personally, and they’d all quickly defend their actions with “can’t you take a joke” or some such BULLLLLSHIIIIIIIT) (Overreaction) I’m comforted by the fact that such people seem to be a minority, and don’t find much support on such a mainstream forum. Other users chime in and call out these two for fouling the air, so to speak. Which is significant. Here’s an unrelated, but relevant quote from later in the discussion that is also reassuring (the fag bit):

Hatebreeder: Pathetic. I’ve heard people bitch about it so many times that it’s just not funny anymore. What’s wrong with Dragonforce?

*WARNING: NO ANSWERS USING THE WORD “FAG” OR RELATED TERMINOLOGY WILL BE REGARDED AND YOU WILL JUST END UP LOOKING LIKE A FUCKTARD. PROCEED WITH CAUTION.

Anyways, betcha can’t figure out who I am on there… :D

Metal Has Returned

Bravewords.com >”METAL” MIKE CHLASCIAK:

…Standing there, playing my flying V with a middle finger in the air for those who thought Metal was dead.

That was 2000. Welcome to today: 2006. Heavy Metal is not coming back, it IS here. No need to say let’s keep it alive, we are over that. We live in the Metal world. Just look around… one way to tell is to see a young kid at a mall wearing their Exodus shirt. That did not happen in 1999. Yeah, some people will wear their newly bought studded belts and jump on the bandwagon, it is to be expected. Fuck, I’ll rather see that and laugh silently in victory than to hear people doing it for the Nookie.

Hell yes.
I couldn’t agree more. If anyone’s heard me talk lately about the metal renaissance, this is pretty much what I’ve been talking about. Metal has made its way back into the mainstream, albeit by way of hardcore (sort of), but still there are elements of good ‘ol metal appearing (can someone say DRAGONFORCE?!) (and My Bloody Valentine touring with MAIDEN? Well, they’re not so bad, but still kinda odd).

Guitar Software

WOW! There is tons of free guitar software out there… Even a handful of apps that can open GuitarPro files (prolly do a better job than the POS mac version of guitarpro). (These are either osx apps, LINUX apps that can run on OSX, or Web/Java apps). [All are usable at least under OSX, though at levels of functionality that I can't yet say]
Found via Sourceforge.net

**TabView:”TabView makes it possible to view and print PowerTab tablatures. PowerTab is a well-known and widely adopted tablature editor for Windows systems. You can easily find thousands of song transcriptions in this format on the net. (OSX App)”

**DGuitar Pro: Views, Prints and Plays Guitar Pro (*.GP4,*.GP3,GTP) files!!

**TuxGuitar: A multitrack guitar tablature editor and player written in Java-SWT, Opens GP3,GP4 and GP5 files! Works!! And made “Images” by Cacaphony sound awesome, since it changed a few of the instruments from the GP4 file… (Electronic drums! haha!) And is much smoother working than the official GP for Mac (< a href="http://apoc.buildtolearn.net/wordpress/2006/08/07/guitar-pro-5-for-mac/">blech). Yay!

Hendrix “trains your chords switching skill, in guitar or piano or any other harmonic tool. Hendrix includes metronome and guitar chords dictionary. JavaScript only!”

Tuners:
Instrument Tuner in Java

Untested/Whack:
Tablature is a Java program that lets you author guitar and bass tablatures graphically, playback the songs and publish them into the Web !” (Works, but is awkward and not so useful…)
KGuitar: Untested guitar tab editor for KDE (might work in X11, but don’t have the time to test right now). Can open GP4 files!

Oh, and Lieberman

Yeah… He is way cool:

Speculation seems to be that Lieberman, a closet Republican since 2003, if he’s no longer able to do it in the Senate, aims to help his friend George Bush in any way he can, including splitting the Democratic vote to allow a GOP candidate to win in November.

The question is why Mr. Lieberman, once respected enough by Democrats that he was chosen as their vice presidential candidate, would turn on his party and it’s principles to give such unfailing support to one of the stupidest Republican presidents in the history of that party. The answer, according to political analyst Melvin Gibson is, “Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world.” But in a time when Americans are slowly waking up to the fact that George W. Bush’s policies are destroying the planet, Mr. Lieberman seems to be out of step with anyone who wants to live.

The Future of the Web

Some smart guys from Sun Microsystems on the future of the web (happy 15th birthday, Web!):

  • P2P won’t be a deciding factor
  • Centralized registration sites will be

Guitar Pro 5 for Mac

…is a complete pile of CRAP! It crashes like nobody’s business! Maybe I’d use it (if it weren’t for all the highjacked music, that is) if it were a public Beta or something, but as paid software? No thanks. (Not yet, at least).

…And what’s with not being able to open more than one document, or have the application stay open even when no documents are open? This always annoyed me on the PC version as well, and you’d think they’d work things like that out after FIVE VERSIONS!

ugh… When you click on an instrument and then try to preview the tuning of certain strings (especially if you go to a second string without first toggling the first one off) you get instant-spinning-beachball-of-death. Blech…
