Global-warming alarmists intimidate dissenting scientists into silence.
BY RICHARD LINDZEN
Wednesday, April 12, 2006 12:01 a.m. EDTAlarm rather than genuine scientific curiosity, it appears, is essential to maintaining funding. And only the most senior scientists today can stand up against this alarmist gale, and defy the iron triangle of climate scientists, advocates and policymakers.

Wired News:
To international observers, The Pirate Bay’s defiant immunity from copyright lawyers is somewhat baffling. But in Sweden, the site is more than just an electronic speak-easy: It’s the flagship of a national file-sharing movement that’s generating an intense national debate, and has even spawned a pro-piracy political party making a credible bid for seats in the Swedish parliament.

News Briefs

I’ll comment later, for now here are a few interesting articles on the evolving Cartoon Chaos, as well as one about Japan’s push for reducing energy use.

EDIT: More on the cartoons:

AMMAN, Jordan, Feb. 21 — In a direct challenge to the international uproar over cartoons lampooning the Prophet Muhammad, the Jordanian journalist Jihad Momani wrote: “What brings more prejudice against Islam, these caricatures or pictures of a hostage-taker slashing the throat of his victim in front of the cameras, or a suicide bomber who blows himself up during a wedding ceremony?”

News Briefs/Links

Here are some interesting links/news-bits I noticed while checking the recent (month’s) headlines from the NYT and the Washington Post…

Oh, and I will eventually be upgrading to WordPress 2 (2.1), but I think I’ll probably do a reformat and reinstall OSX Tiger and Ubuntu linux (dual-boot!!!) first. Right now my 60 gig internal harddrive has a 20 gig OSX partition, two useless 900 meg partitions that are mac formatted but just sit around useless on my desktop (originally was going to be mapped as my /home directory under linux, or even osx… or something) and then a 10 or so gig Ext2 (linux) partition that has been lost into the abyss of partition-land and some random remaining unformatted free space (that disk utility won’t let me format… ugh… not willing to pay for expensive dynamic repartitioning software, and my conscience has been acting up again so no pirating!).

AAAND… this blog managed to eat up almost ALL of my monthly bandwidth during January (this site is amazingly hosted for free at http://www.buildtolearn.net the best free web host, NO ADS no BULLSHIT! you just have to participate in the community-forums!) So since time doesn’t allow me to participate sufficiently in the forums to earn a bandwidth upgrade, I need to start looking for a paid webhost! I’ve searched in the past but I always end up completely overwhelmed by the myriad options… but i’d love any suggestions…!

Anyways, onto the links…

p.s. still slightly unsure about using this textpad markup… worried about switching away from it and losing all my old links… but will stick with it for now out of convenience… shouldn’t make any difference to you anyways!!

Airbag - Mental.

Airbag - Mental.

This evening my brother-in-law said it best, “I’m getting real tired of this Pat Robertson guy.”

Me too and I think it’s high time we took a food tube, flicked the switch to ‘SUCK’, and crammed it into Pat Robertson’s mouth — the only medical procedure I know of that might prevent another attack from his debilitating diarrhea of the mouth.

Seriously sweet mercies, how is it possible that this jerk is still on television and that anyone is listening to him? Is anyone listening to him? Scary thought that is.
